Walking into morning
with a lover and a friend
while a young audacious sun
strikes flame atop mountains
beyond a rockbound river
where impetuous mists
lift from sky-born waters
like loosed hope or a song,

of light and land and water
and air that stay or change us,
we hear the red wolf, distant
and out of sight, calling us,
